Tweeting. WTF
I don't understand Twitter at all. I know a couple of people who have twitter accounts and all I want to know is- why? Maybe it's just the type of person I am, but I don't see the importance in knowing what sandwhich Shia Lebouf had for lunch or telling everyone I benched 500 lbs. I can't bench 500 lbs. Only 205 (irony again). The fact that people care about letting everyone know at every second of everyday what they're doing and then in turn caring what other people do, is a little upsetting. If you really need people to know you bought the cutest pumps yesterday, just wear them around. If they really are as cute as you said on twitter, people will most likely say something like, "Cute pumps" and maybe even ask you about them. You then can go off about how they were on sale and stuff like that. You will then have had a real live human interaction, instead of: "OMG!!! Just bought the cutest shoes at payless... hit me up!! :)" or whatever girls say on twitter. Now I'm not trying to bash women in this post; I love women. I just used that as an example, so I don't want a bunch of angry comments, alright. What I do want, though, is to know why people Tweet. Quite frankly, I'm lost on the whole topic.

To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question.
ReplyDeleteI tweet because I am really interested in social media and how people and corporations use it to further their goals. It is also good to have an online presence these days because it shows potential employers that you are aware of what is going on in technology, media and communications. I also like to get notifications about what my friends are doing professionally and to see job postings. It is also a great way to capture the zeitgeist. You can gather a lot of information by tracking the trending topics.
Just my $0.02 :O)
I enjoyed reading your post, I find myself thinking the same things when I read Twitter posts, and incredibly detailed Facebook statuses a lot of the time. I like Twitter when it is used for things of substance. For example, companies tweet about products and events, bands tweet about upcoming shows or albums, etc. For those purposes, I think Twitter is very useful, and, once I got the hang of this site and followed things of interest to me, it became a cool tool to have. Other than that, I definitely see what you mean.
ReplyDeleteI don't use Twitter, mainly because I don't understand it. I know people really like to follow celebrities and Twitter is a way in which you can see what they do on a daily basis. I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus but I remember it was a huge deal that she was canceling her Twitter account. She made a video and everything about it. People were really upset and I don't get why. She wants a private life and that means not letting everyone know what she's doing, where she's doing it and who she's doing it with.
ReplyDeleteI know Twitter can be a good way for business to get their name out and give Twitter followers discounts on their products. I still don't get the point of letting people know what you are doing all the time.
I realize how twitter could be cool to some people, but I really don't see the difference between tweeting and facebooking. Isn't a tweet and a status update the same thing. I believe twitter is simply another way for people to make believe they are involved in other peoples lives by reading what they are doing everyday. Once again, twitter has taken a piece of classic socialization and removed all aspect of human to human interaction.
